Washington: The United States has called on Iran to confirm publicly that the Strait of Hormuz is open to all maritime traffic. The demand includes assurances that civilian vessels traversing the strait will not be targeted, as stated by senior US administration officials.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the officials, who chose to remain anonymous, indicated that despite the escalating tensions between the US and Iran, discussions are expected to continue. They emphasized that Tehran's failure to provide the requested assurance could lead to unspecified consequences.
US President Donald Trump commented earlier that while the US is open to continuing talks with Iran, the ceasefire between the two nations is considered over. In parallel, the US administration is preparing to impose additional sanctions on Tehran.
