US State Department Commends Iraq’s Move to Accept ISIS Detainees from Syria


Washington: The US State Department has expressed approval for Iraq’s decision to accept ISIS detainees from Syria.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the State Department released a statement noting that Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a phone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. During the call, the Secretary praised Iraq’s commitment to swiftly transferring and detaining ISIS fighters in secure facilities within Iraq, particularly in light of the recent disturbances in northeast Syria.



The statement further indicated that both the Secretary and the Prime Minister talked about ongoing diplomatic efforts to ensure that nations repatriate their citizens currently held in Iraq, with the intention of facilitating their prosecution.
