Basra: A woman in her sixties was saved at Al-Qurna General Hospital in Basra after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. A specialized medical team in the emergency department at the hospital intervened to save the life of the 60-year-old patient, who arrived in critical condition due to ventricular fibrillation (VF), a life-threatening heart rhythm that results in cardiac arrest.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Basra Health Department media office reported that emergency physician Dr. Muhammad Ali Diwan, along with the nursing staff, immediately began intensive cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the patient. They administered four electric shocks following approved medical protocols. The swift response and the team's efficiency led to the restoration of the patient's heartbeat, circulation, and breathing, with her vital signs eventually stabilizing.
The statement from the Basra Health Department also noted that initial medical examinations revealed the patient had suffered a heart attack. Following the stabilization of her condition, she was transferred to the intensive care unit for further treatment and close monitoring. This successful intervention is highlighted as a medical achievement, showcasing the competence of the medical staff and the readiness of emergency departments in northern Basra hospitals to manage critical cases.
